Urologic surgery
At the heart of our profession
The Hôpital Franco-Britannique urologic surgery unit provides surgical procedures for cancer, urolithiasis, pelvic floor disorders and urinary incontinence, prostatic hyperplasia, andrology and prostate cancer screening.
Urologic surgeons intervene in the treatment of both male and female urinary tract pathologies (kidney stones, kidney or bladder tumours, incontinence and female genital prolapses). These specialists also treat male genital disorders (prostate, testicles and member).
The most common interventions
- endoscopic surgery (prostate and bladder polyp resection, removal of kidney stones via ureteroscopy)
- Extracorporeal lithotripsy (non-operative procedure using an external machine that generates shock-waves to fragment the kidney stone)
- laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgical technique where the surgeon makes small incisions through which surgical instruments are inserted to complete the operation)
- TCT or TOT strip for female urinary incontinence (minimally invasive surgery which involves inserting a synthetic strip between the urethra and the vagina to stop urinary leaks)
- percutaneous surgery: location of a camera directly inside the renal cavities to remove large kidney stones,
- prostate biopsy using ultrasonography (for prostate cancer screening).
- Urological cancers (prostate, kidney, bladder and testicles) our treated surgically and medically in our establishment (chemotherapy, support care, evolution reports). We use a multi-disciplinary approach with weekly meetings involving urologists, oncologists and radiotherapists.
