At the heart of our profession
The Hopital Franco-Britannique urological surgery unit provides cancer surgery, and treatment or procedures for kidney stones, pelvic floor muscle conditions and urinary incontinence, prostate adenoma, andrology and prostate cancer screening.
Urological surgeons treat all conditions related to the male and female urinary tract (kidney stones, kidney or bladder tumours, female incontinence and genital prolapses). These specialists also treat conditions related to the male genitalia (prostate, testicles and member).
The most common interventions
- endoscopic surgery (prostate resection, bladder polyps, kidney stone removal by ureteroscopy)
- extracorporeal lithotripsy (machine which uses concentrated shock-waves to fragment kidney stones without invasive operative procedure)
- laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgical procedure where the surgeon operates using small surgical implements which enter the body via small incisions)
- TVT or TOT strips to treat female urinary incontinence (minimally invasive surgery which involves placing synthetic strips between the urethra and the vagina)
- percutaneous surgery: introduction of a camera directly inside the renal cavity to remove large kidney stones,
- ultra-sound guided prostate biopsies (for prostate cancer screening).
- Treatment of urological cancer (prostate, kidney, bladder or testicles) using both medical or surgical techniques (chemotherapy, support care and assessment). This treatment is multidisciplinary involving weekly meetings of urologists, cancerologists and radiotherapists.
