Geriatrics
Direct hospitalisations
Treatment for hospitalised patients
- For acute medical situations we encourage immediate and effective treatment in an attempt to reduce the negative effects of prolonged hospital stays, and for admissions via the emergency ward we have set up a “GP Emergencies” group for health professionals.
- Dedicated direct line: 01 47 59 19 41
- For situations not involving an acute medical problem we encourage the most suited type of hospitalisation: programmed hospitalisation, consultation or out-patient clinic.
Geriatrics at the Hôpital Franco-Britannique
Geriatrics deals with all conditions that are specifically related to ageing, notably their poly-pathological nature; it treats patients aged 75 or more.
Patients may suffer from pathologies that develop physical, sensory and/or psychological dependencies which must be taken into account during treatment.
Geriatric medicine includes a clinical examination and a complete health report (memory, psychological problems, sensory deficits, nutrition, dependence, etc.), these are then used to establish an individual treatment program which may also include hygiene measures and social assistance.
The unit’s doctors also contribute to the education and research work of Paris medical college students and interns.
Some of the symptoms which may give rise to a geriatrics consultation
- appetite disorders (loss of weight, malnutrition)
- dizziness, falls
- loss of memory
- behavioural problems
- depression, anxiety
- sleep problems
- lesions
Types of admission
Geriatrics treatment may take many forms:
- Standard hospitalisation
- Consultation:
- Memory: screening tests, neuropsychological tests as consultations or out-patient clinic.
- Global poly-pathology
- Onco-geriatrics
- Geriatrics out-patient clinic: the objective is to detect weakness factors through multi-disciplinary evaluations in order to propose an individual treatment program and re-evaluate the evolution of a critical illness (specialist opinions: rheumatology, infectious disease, internal medicine; neurology, cardiology, etc.)
- The mobile team and the Community-Hospital network:
- The objectives are:
- to provide an overall evaluation of the aged patient,
- to provide advice, information and training for caring staff,
- to participate in the establishment of the patient’s individual treatment program,
- to propose an individual assistance plan for the senior citizen and their close ones.
- In Levallois, there is a “Gerontological Evaluation Network” (REGAL) whose priority is to organise the best possible home care for senior citizens.
- The objectives are:
