Pharmacy
General information
The pharmacy:
- manages the supply, storage and dispensing of medication and sterile medical devices for all of the IHFB care units (both sites).
- manages the supply, storage, dispensing and tracing of medical implants (orthopaedic prosthetics, digestive prosthetics, chamber implants, breast implants, etc.)
- manages the preparation of individual medication when not available on the market.
- manages the preparation of anti-cancer treatments.
- manages the supply, storage, preparation and dispensing of medication for clinical trials.
- participates in correct and safe use of medication.
Whilst medication and sterile medical devices are generally distributed in strict accordance to a program established with the service in question depending on its speciality, certain medications with a specific status are subject to nominative dispensing (“reserve” antibiotics, high costs medication, TUA medications (temporary usage authorisation),clinical trial medication, preparation of intravenous anti-cancer medication, illegal drugs).
Cytotoxic Reconstitution Unit (CRU)
The Pharmacy has a centralised anti-cancer or cytotoxic reconstitution unit. A specific room with an isolator and a laminar flux extractor to ensure both staff safety and guarantee the quality of the product delivered to the patient. The Pharmacy prepares chemotherapy for hospitalised patients. The pharmaceutical processing circuit (prescription, preparation and administration) is fully computerised.
Retrocession
The Pharmacy dispenses medication to out-patients (retrocession).
Certain medication can only be dispensed by hospital pharmacies. Out-patients can pick these up Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.
Documentation and information
The Pharmacy has an informational policy regarding clinical services to encourage the correct use of medication and medical devices.
These actions for health professionals are carried out in close collaboration with doctors and health executives through a number of commissions:
– COMEDIMS: Medication and Sterile Medical Devices Commission
– CLUD: Committee for Pain Management
– CHRI: Hygiene and Infectious Risks Committee
All medication and sterile medical devices used within the establishment are presented in the Therapeutical Handbook.
Practical information
– Please do not forget to bring the original of your prescription along with your proof of Social Security coverage or Carte Vitale.
– Medication is dispensed for a period of one month, which may be renewed depending on the prescription.
– If you leave the country for more than one month, please contact your social security office such that they may provide you with authorisation for the supply of your medication for a longer period.
The pharmacy is on the first floor of the Kleber site (4, rue Kléber).
