Anaesthesiology-Intensive care
The HFB anaesthesiology unit covers the pre and post operative anaesthesiology procedures (pain management and after-effects during the first 24 hours) for patients aged over 2 years.
For all planned or emergency surgical interventions the required anaesthesiology treatment is carried out by an anaesthesiology-intensive care specialist.
Different types of anaesthetics may be proposed depending on the operation and the patient’s antecedents and personal choices:
- General anaesthetic
- Local anaesthetic
- Hypnosis (only possible for certain interventions such as digestive endoscopy or superficial surgery).
The maternity ward on level 2A can call on the anaesthesiology staff to intervene in all situations where pregnancy may present specific risks. A duty medical (anaesthesiologist-intensive care specialist, anaesthesiology-intensive care interns) and paramedical (State qualified anaesthesiology nurse) team is on call 24 hours a day.
An Observation Ward provides pre and post-operative monitoring and care for high-risk patients.
Practical information concerning admissions
The anaesthetist will establish a medical case file. For this they will require certain information to ensure that the surgical operation and recovery go as smoothly as possible.
Remember to bring all of the medical documents that you have in your possession including the results of any recent analyses (blood tests, pulmonary images, electrocardiogram, etc.), do not forget to bring the completed the questionnaire you will have received during the surgery consultation.
The Anaesthetist may prescribe further analyses and/or changes to your current medication depending on the intervention.
They will answer your questions and provide you with complete details concerning the type of anaesthetic to be used, any associated risks and advice on how to prevent post-operative pain.
Anaesthesiology consultations are held at:
- Kléber site: for digestive, orthopaedic and urological surgery interventions and digestive and bronchial endoscopic examinations.
- Barbès site: for obstetric interventions (epidural for childbirth or spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section) and gynaecological surgery.
